Cristal ChampagneGil Turner’s is proud to carry a fine selection of
champagne, including high profile labels like
Cristal,
Krug and
Dom Perignon. Cristal has secured a place in cult history by multiple movies, TV show and rap song mentions since the early 1990s. Louis Roederer, the champagne house that produces Cristal, was first founded in the late 1700s. Within a century the
Louis Roederer champagne had become aristocracy’s
champagne of choice, and a special cuveè was created for Russian Tsar Alexander II. The name of the new champagne created especially for Russian royalty?
Cristal.
The pricey champagne is composed of a blend of 45%
Chardonnay and 55%
Pinot Noir grape varieties. What makes Cristal so special is not the blend, but the quality of grapes that go into each bottle. Louis Roederer only picks the best grapes from
Grand Cru or Premiere Grand Cru class for Cristal, which results in the ultra smooth, delicious taste. Though Cristal has garnered a lot of hype, many champagne connoisseurs prefer Dom Perignon.
The original
Dom Perignon was a Benedict monk who discovered how to add bubbles to
wine and in turn create champagne. As opposed to Cristal,
Dom Perignon champagne is composed of 55% Chardonnay and 45%
Pinot Noir. Currently, all bottles of
Dom Perignon champagne produced are vintage. The
champagnes are only made in the best years and in the same year that the grapes are harvested in. Also, all bottles of
Dom Perignon champagne have been aged for at least a year to allow the flavors to blend together and create its signature smooth taste.
